Being so desperately unhappy with traditional ‘dog training’ methods, and by being inspired by the work of the world renown horseman Monty Roberts, I set myself the task of learning the language of the dog. What started as a desire to give my own dogs a life they truly deserve grew into the goal of wanting every dog in the world to have the peace and joy that I found for my own ‘friends’.
Just 10 years ago I was the only Dog Listener in the world, and now we have recognised Dog Listeners from Iceland to New Zealand, all sharing this dream. In that time I have published five International best selling books, with the first one ‘The Dog Listener’ now in 20 countries, produced a DVD (‘The Dog Listener’) and numerous subject specific audio CDs.
Along with my son, Tony Knight, a Dog Listener since 1999, I am able to share this wonderful work with people the world over. What started as a dream has become a reality, with our number of Dog Listeners increasing every month. Because of these amazing people, we are able to reach thousands of dogs whether they are at home with their families or in rescue shelters desperately seeking a loving home of their own.
With the assistance of one of my Highly Recommended Dog Listeners, Julie Abbott, and my daughter, Ellie, I am proud to present this newsletter where you will find articles, experiences, and poems written by our colleagues and information on the International Day of the Dog events and other charity-associated fundraisers.
As so many Dog Listeners assist in rescue shelters worldwide, we will feature dogs that are in need of permanent homes. One of our team, Carmen, will be initiating a network of foster carers who are prepared to assist in the rehabilitation of troubled dogs.
As Dog Listening spreads throughout the dog world we are willing and would be delighted to share our knowledge with anyone who wants to listen.
